Salsa Brava is a bold, smoky, and slightly spicy Spanish sauce that adds a fiery kick to any dish. Traditionally served with Patatas Bravas, this classic sauce features tomatoes, smoked paprika, and olive oil, making it a versatile and flavorful addition to meats, seafood, and tapas.

Main Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika pimentón de la Vera
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper adjust for spice preference
- 1 cup canned diced tomatoes or 2 fresh tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
- ½ teaspoon sugar optional, for balance
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Optional Add-Ins for More Flavor:
- ½ teaspoon onion powder adds extra depth
- ½ teaspoon cumin for earthiness
- 1 teaspoon tomato paste for a richer taste
- ¼ cup chicken or vegetable broth for a thinner consistency
Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients
Dice fresh tomatoes (if using) and mince garlic.
Measure out spices, vinegar, and olive oil for easy cooking.
Step 2: Sauté the Garlic & Spices
Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
Add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Stir in smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and onion powder (if using). Cook for another 30 seconds to release their aromas.
Step 3: Add Tomatoes & Simmer
Add diced tomatoes (or canned tomatoes) and stir well.
Sprinkle in salt, black pepper, and sugar (if using).
Reduce the heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 4: Blend & Finish
Blend the sauce using an immersion blender (or transfer to a food processor) until smooth.
Stir in red wine vinegar and simmer for another 5 minutes to develop flavors.
Taste & Adjust: Add more vinegar for tanginess or more cayenne for spice.
